Scholarship

Dear Class of 1964,

Where do I even begin? Words cannot express how thankful I am for choosing me for this scholarship. This scholarship has changed my life in ways I didn’t know were possible.

You would probably like to know more about me. My name is Laura Elizabeth Bertrand. I am 15 years old from Erving Massachusetts. I have always been known as the girl with such big dreams. I come from such a small unheard of town where my friends thought I was crazy when I talked about someday owning a successful buisness or working on Broadway. I have always wanted to pursue performing arts or business for as long as I can remember. I went to a public school (Pioneer Valley School) where there were not very many opportunities to help me progress in these areas. That is when I decided I need to start looking for places that could really help me get where I want to be. That’s when I knew Northfield Mount Hermon would be the place for me.

As a child I used to come to the NMH campus for Big Brother Big Sister program. From the moment I stepped onto the campus I knew it was where I wanted to go to school someday. As for the future, I would like to be a professional in performing arts as well as successful in the business world.

This scholarship has completely changed my life. I have so many opportunities now that I would not have been able to experience if I did not attend Northfield Mount Hermon. When I took my tour here my tour guide mentioned names like “Uma Thurman and Chiddy Bang went here”. I want to one day be one of those names so on every tour they will say “Laura Bertrand went to this school”. I am going to work as hard as I possibly can to be successful. I promise you, you won’t regret this decision.

I am extremely grateful for you choosing me.

                                                                                      Sincerely,

                                                                                      Laura
